There’s a side effect of online dating that you never consider in those first exciting moments when you upload a photo and try to describe yourself in 200 words.

The side effect?: They could be watching you!

You see I live in quite a small city. Far TOO small a lot of the time. So if you’ve trawled through several hundred profiles online (and they’ve trawled through you) there’s a good chance you’re eventually going to run into one of them: on the bus, in the supermarket, in a bar, on the street.

It will happen.

In fact, Take2 was recently out and saw not one, but TWO guys she’d chatted to online. Neither conversation had developed into a date, so they found themselves doing the awkward ‘eye-meet’ across the bar, wondering whether to admit they knew each other.

Or alternatively you can also get the “you look really familiar, do I know you from somewhere….??” before understanding dawns.

But the ones I really hate aren’t the ones who talk to you, it’s the people who look at you on the bus, then do a double-take, then stare at you intently. You find yourself stopping to wonder: “did I chat to him online?” or “did I reject his contact request but he recognises me?”
